Winter Spiti Valley ride 2019 experience
We completed our winter spiti and reached spillo yesterday.It was great adventure.The amount of snowfall we witness was beyond imagination.Now whole Spiti & Kinnaur valley is covered with snow.
The roads are full of fresh snow and black ice.There were Avalanches near pooh at 3 places yesterday, lot of people were stuck but now road is open.Narkanda roads are closed due to heavy snowfall.Also heavy snowfall in Kufri and Shimla.Try to avoid these places for few days.Also there is no electricity from last few days and there is scarcity of water due to heavy snowfall.
All Roads are covered with snow and it becomes dangerous to ride-drive on them so avoid it completely. we saw lot of bikers trying to cover spiti in winters by road but it was next to impossible. Nothing work in snow, imported tires, chains, etc all fail. In the end all the riders loaded the bikes on 4*4 end return . Lot of bikers couldnt make it to kaza even. But we with our 4*4 made it to kaza and completed the trip with group.
We also left the bikes at nako and continue the journey by SUV only. That was a wise decision and all participants appreciated it. No matter how easy and beautiful it look riding bike in winters is a next to impossible and one should not take it as a challenge.
End of the day we all return with lot of memories and had good amount of experience "how to survive in winters". Everyday we use gas stove to warm the SUV else it wont start. We melted ice on heater and melt the ice to warm water to warm the bonnet of SUV. Everyday we struggle to keep our vehicle going. Life stand still when everything freeze.
So next time you planning for such trip. Do take precautions. Take it as a learning experience and not as a challenge. Change plans as per need . End of the day you should enjoy the journey.
