Sarchu is the mid-point if you are travelling on Manali Leh highway. Sarchu is located on boundary of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh region.This is the only place where proper camps are available with attach toilets. Health Hazards: Being a high-altitude terrain tourist might feel uneasiness, breathlessness and tiredness. Loss of appetite and indigestion.
1. People with asthma problem should avoid staying here and should go to low altitude to counter the problem.
2. Kids below 3-4 should not travel to such high altitude.
3. Take Diamox to counter high altitude sickness.
Best time to visit: Sarchu is open from June to October and remain close rest of the year.
Where to stay: There are many Swiss camps available at Sarchu. This is the midpoint between Manali and Leh. The camps are of good quality with attach western toilets.
Weather: In summers days are cold but nights are freezing cold. In winters the place is extremely cold due to snowfall. Heavy woollens are advised.
ATM: There is no ATM facility at Sarchu, the nearest ATM is in the Keylong which is almost 105km away.
Net connectivity: There is no signal /connectivity at Sarchu. The nearest phone facility is 2 Km away at Army transit camp, where you can find satellite phone. But that too for emergency.
