High court order to remove all camps from Pangong Tso Lake by 15 September 2018.Pangong Lake High grassland Lake is situated in Himalayas at height of 4350 meter. It is 160km from Leh city and 134 km long and spread between india and china.

The pangong Lake is in danger and need a rescue immediately. Recently High court directed the Leh district administration to remove all the camps and solid establishments situated at the bank of Pangong lake, to control the damage they are causing to Lake.

3 idiot fame pangong lake became famous overnight and gave a boost in tourism. Nowadays lot of movies are being shot in ladakh. Beauty of pangong lake attract everyone, that is why everybody want to go and see the Pangong lake. This help the tourism industry to boom in ladakh. The fact that this lake keep on changing color make it more attractive. You can see lots of restaurant, camps and other establishment mushrooming near the bank of Pangong lake . Though rising tourism is good for ladakh economy as it help local people to generate good business.

Every year the number of tourist visiting ladakh is increasing. Like every year this year also Leh ladakh received large number of tourist. The tourist is good for economy but its very harmful for ecosystem as every tourist leave behind piles of trash (plastic bags, bottles, wrappers, chips packs etc) which is very harmful for high altitude lake. A bench of justice tashi Rabstan directed the leh administration to take strict action to follow the orders and reallocate the camps and solid establishments somewhere else. But in this process lot of people will loose the business.

To counter this problem leh Council came with a proposal to ensure sustainable tourism. They propose to allot the land to locals so that they can run the business at new place maintaining required distance from the lake. Pangong Lake area is declared as a cold desert wildlife sanctuary by central government. And as per sources Camps and restaurant are actually encroachment of wild life protected land, which is actually a violation of J&K wildlife (Protection) Act 1987 amended upto 2002 under section 53A.

Last year chader trek also faced the same situation as people rushed to cover the trek. Many organizers start promoting chader trek at very cheap price and lot of tourist reach there. and again there was lot of trash everywhere. Leh administration then took step to control it. From next year there will be control on number of people going for chader trek and there will b guidelines to follow. Hope we will see some changes next year.

Ladakh Administration is required to take necessary steps to save and preserve the world famous Pangong lake by scientific measures. There should be schemes such as waste management , solid waste management to save the ecosystem.

As a responsible traveler we all should also take responsibility to save the environment, Try avoid eating packed food at remote areas instead opt to eat at local eating joints as it will help to reduce trash and help them to gain business as well. Carry water bottle with you and refill it wherever option are available. Carry bag to collect your waste to bring it back and dispose at dustbins. Though as individual we cannot do much but ?Even a small contribution make a difference.
