Bara-lacha la also known as Bara-lacha Pass is a high mountain pass in Zanskar range.

This pass is located on Manali Leh highway connecting Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Leh district in Ladakh.

Crossing Baralacha pass present spectacular Himalayan views, large plateaus and a green terrain that turns into an arid high-altitude desert like terrain. The steep turns & curves passing through high walls of snow make it mesmerising. It a dream of every biker and adventure lover to cross this pass in winters.

The pass is of utmost importance for the tourist travelling on Manali Leh highway as this pass is main factor that decide when the Manali Leh highway will stand open or close for the year. It is located at altitude of 16040 ft. above sea level in Zanskar region. This pass is also used to trek Suraj Tal trek and Chandra Tal. On a road trip to Leh Ladakh, it is advisable to cross it in morning as the day get warm in afternoon and more snow melt which create water streams in rocky patches and make it very difficult to cross.

Best time to visit: Its open from June to October and remain close rest of the year.

Where to stay: No accommodation available at Baralacha pass. Just before Baralacha pass there is a place called Zing Zing bar, where locals from Darcha set up small tea stall camps with line of beds with common toilet. Another good option is at Sarchu. Sarchu is 35 km away from Baralacha pass, on Manali- Leh highway toward Leh.

Weather: In summers days are cold but nights are freezing cold. In winters the place is extremely cold due to snowfall.

Best time to visit:  Baralacha La is open in month of June and close down in last week of October. It remains close rest of the year.

ATM: There is no ATM facility at Baralacha Pass, the nearest ATM is in the Keylong which is almost 75km away.

Net connectivity: There is no signal connectivity at Baralacha Pass. The nearest phone facility is at Sarchu Army transit camp, where you can find satellite phone. But that too for emergency.
